Information for faculty

Instructions for registering to participate in Commencement ceremonies will be available in the spring.

Regalia pick-up and return information will be available in the spring.

Faculty and lecturers who are participating in Commencement ceremonies do not require a ticket, but their guests do. To request a guest ticket, please email the pertinent details (names of guests, ceremonies for which you would like tickets) to James Poterba, Mitsui Professor of Economics and chair of the Commencement Committee, at facultytix@mit.edu.

This ceremony unites the undergraduate and graduate degree candidates in all programs in all Schools and the College. The OneMIT ceremony, which does not comprise diploma presentation, includes the academic procession, speeches, and the turning of the Brass Rat.

The Commencement 2025 ceremonies are scheduled for May 28–30. More information will be posted when details are confirmed.

Bachelor’s degrees are conferred at this ceremony on Killian Court, where students will cross the stage as their names are announced.

The Advanced Degree Ceremonies held by the Schools and College recognize the graduates of all Master’s and Doctoral programs. Hoods will be presented to Doctoral candidates and all of the degree recipients will be announced, cross the stage, and have their pictures taken.

Absolutely! Whether this is your first Commencement or your twentieth, we welcome faculty members at all levels of appointment, as well as emeriti colleagues who wish to join us.
